The windmill


Scene Description :

Since I don’t know how to start, let's the fate decides. 
(49) move away from a thread (68) Carelessness (6) Reality                             
Interpretation : when wandering into the forest on the track of his missing love , Barton spots an abandoned windmill where (3) cultists are performing a ritual to raise a putrid undead from previous sinister here.                                            


Barton exits from the forest at the bottom of the small hill. (Perception 22) He sees something unusual close to the entrance of an abandoned windmill. 3 cultists are performing a ritual. He decides to hide behind a tree an observe (stealth 12). Little bit surprise to find this scene here he stumble a bit but since he is far they don’t notice him.

After further inspection Barton is certain they are performing a ritual.

Do the cultists have an object to give a clue on the ritual ? (cf5 very likely - 23 - Y )

Barton see the taller of them with a skull in his hands raise to the sky. (Arcana 3) It doesn’t look good but Barton have no clue of what it is. He knows something it’s not normal and he want to intervene before something worse happens and who cares if he is outnumbered.

Does the ritual close to the end ? (cf5 50/50 - 95 - EN)


Apparently they just start the ritual and Barton starts to think at his different options. (36 minutes completion)

Can he reach them with and arrows ? (cf5 likely - 80 - N)

He decides to go closer (stealth 23) and crawls behind a big stump in the middle of the slope where he can reach them with an arrow (100 feet). Take a deep breath. First arrow in place. Let surprise them.

Barton Bow - 21 to hit - 9 dmg -> cultist 1 dead

The first arrow hits the main cultist’s back. He drops on the ground and the skull roll.

turn 2 - init Barton 18, cultist 7
Barton Bow - 18 to hit - 9 dmg -> cultist 2 dead

Barton aims at the second cultist closer to the skull
The third one take the skull and run inside the abandoned windmill, shouting “The dead will find you and bring you to their realm”

turn 3 - init Barton 14, cultist 21
Cultist hides under the destroyed stairs. No move and no sound for Barton who thinks how to cover the distance to the windmill without to be a big target. Chances are minimal to have support inside and start to run in zig-zag close to the door and draw his dagger.


Is there more people inside ? (cf5 unlikely - 73 - N)

turn 4 - init Barton 19, cultist 18
Barton burst into the lower floor and doesn’t find the cultist. (perception 7) After a quick glance no one in sight, Barton decides to climb the stairs to see if the cultist is upstairs.
Passing close to him without seeing him the cultist try is luck.
Cultist scimitar - 16 hit - 3 dmg (Barton 9 hp)
(acrobatics 8) Barton fell in the middle of the stair. (prone)

Barton dagger - 8 miss - 0 dmg

Barton turn to hit with his dagger but have hard time to locate and adjust his new opponent. Back to his feet he runs 10 feet upstairs

Does the cultist want to flee ? (cf5 Very unlikely - 80 - N)

Cultist scimitar - 17 hit - 4 dmg (Barton 5 hp)
Cultist exist from under the stair and run after Barton to slash him with his scimitar

turn 6 - init Barton 12, cultist 18
Cultist scimitar - 8 miss - 0 dmg (Barton 5 hp)
Barton dagger - 23 hit- 7 dmg (Cultist 2 hp)


turn7 - init Barton 11, cultist 3

Barton decides to shove him from the edge of the balcony (athletics 13 against Acro Nat 20). The cultist rotate like a snake and avoid Barton push. He is on his back and hit.
Cultist scimitar - 6 miss - 0 dmg (Barton 5 hp)
Almost a sure shot but Barton loose is balance and make a sudden move to don’t fall and sees the blade hitting right above his shoulder.

turn8 - init Barton 14, cultist 8
Barton dagger - 11 miss - 0 dmg
Cultist scimitar - 7 miss - 0 dmg (Barton 5 hp)

Still Trying to get his balance right Barton miss the cultist by few centimeter.
The dance continues. The cultist has wide open red eyes shooting at Barton “DEATH, DEATH...”.

Barton dagger - 8 miss - 0 dmg
Cultist scimitar - Nat 20 hit - 10 dmg (Barton -5 hp)

Barton puts his feet in a hole in the wooden balcony and stumble. The cultist takes this opportunity to slash the poor Barton who fell unconscious on the ground.

Did the cultist going to achieve Barton on the ground ? (cf6 Very unlikely - 53 - N)
Did the cultist going to stabilize Barton on the ground ? (cf6 50/50 - 14 - Y)


After healing himself the cultist stabilizes Barton and ties him. Apparently he have a plan for him.
