The Game : Nephilim legend

Nephilim is an occult contemporary RPG where you play magical creatures who live through human history and even before. Your essence and magic are driven by the elemental energy named KA (earth, air, fire, water and moon). Since the fall of Atlantis you need to be incarnated in a human body fueled by the KA-sun. The Nephilim have developed during centuries the occult sciences (Magic, Kabbalah and Alchemy) and esoteric quests trying to find a way to their original form. Agartha is their ultimate achievement.

During all your reincarnation you have to fight against the secret society who try to destroy you and steal your knowledge.

Nephilim is now at his 5th edition and has streamlined some of the very dense rules set from the previous edition ( Nephilim Legend - Mnemos Edition only in french for now). People can be scared thinking you need a lot of historical knowledge but this is just a support if you want and you can play with it and distort it to fit your campaign (find an occult interpretation to an historic event is the way to do it).

I will use the simplified rules and try to quickly explain some of the mechanics during the play.

Like in my previous D&D 5e solo game - The Lost Ranger - I will color code the game mechanics in blue and the oracle in orange. I am still using Mythic GME and UNE The Universal NPC emulator and some random tables I will adapt to the contemporary set-up. I will maybe try the tarot cards or deck of many things who are in line with the theme of this RPG.

Let’s create our character : Wraac the Satyr

Character Creation

Even if I was GM on the v1 I will create an “awaken”, easier to start with. On our pentacle we need to choose our dominant KA (element). This is going to drive the other elements but mainly your personality.
The Earth will influence and shape Wraac. His shapeshifter is the Satyr. When you progress your shape can be more and more difficult to hide. So far I have 3 levels (max 10) of metamorphosis only visible when I use my pentacle (magic, approach - a way to tackle a situation with the influence of one element …).

 

Most of the Nephelim experience comes from his past reincarnation.
- Healer (exp 5) during the fall of Atlantis : physical and magical healing, magical forces understanding and restoring...
- Perfect noble (exp 5) during the Cathares pyre (XIII century) : etiquette, courtesy, history, nobility, eloquence, leadership, sword expert
- Parisian Bourgeois (exp 2) during the Fall of the temple (XIV century) : trading, finance, networking, bargaining
- Emergency doctor (exp 6) during the 90’s : practical medicine,surgery, diseases, viruses, drugs, empathy, priority, cold blood manage stress

During this past time, Wraac learned low magic (8) ,high magic (8 following the path of the winding trail ) and he started his initiation to the black work (6) in alchemy. During a long period of inactivity the Nephilim can only stock 5 formulas tattooed on his pentacle (regenerate,Earth Elemental coat, chthonian trail, memory eater, find plexus). The 9 remaining formulas he knows are inside some focus he had hidden in some secure places (Can he find them easily ? ...).
Awaken, Wraac followed some esoteric quest (golden trail 1, templar treasure 6) and tried to gather knowledge on the occult world (templar 6, gypsies 4, Major Arcanas 4, Orichalcum 4, Invisible History 3…).
After each reincarnation the Nephilim goes back to his stasis. Between a prison and a safeguard, he develops a strong relationship with this object, which is the tool of its immortality. In our case it is a contemporary art sculpture from Manfred Kielnhofer called the Guardian of time (maybe we'll figure out how Wraac ended here).
It’s time for our new awakening and choose the new simulacrum we are going to inhabit.

As usual I have a block to choose how to start , even if I have a lot of ideas. Let’s use the BOLD stories and deed generator.

Interpretation : An ancient Nephilim had a rivalry with Wraac and gave his stasis to the templar. These one want to try to wake up Wraac and transform him in homonculus to exploit his magical power. But at the last minute his enemy used all his occult knowledge to stop the process.

A sudden flash of color dominated by the brown and green

A sense of emergency, an oppressive feeling, 5 holes in the magic fields around, the reel world is blurry and desaturated, Wraac looks around and can see his stasis and one glowing sparks. A human is attached to a megalith but he feels the danger if he enters this body. Trapped in this circle, pressed to find a simulacrum, Wraac feels a sudden change in the blue and white filaments carrying the air element. A blast knocks the people around and breaks the coherency of the circle formed by the black holes. His pentacle is pushed West. A farm is not too far away with only 5 inhabitants but he continues with his current velocity to surf on the elements. After one hour, he spots a single seed of sun elements. A man is sleeping. Wraac fights the consciousness of the dreamer and dominates him. He has a new shell to start his new reincarnation. He forces him to wake up and check his id and the surrounding of where he is. Apparently Amaury Bruguière is a sheepherder, leaving in Les Rives on the Larzac plateau. He stays awake all night to check if someone is coming in this remote location

I would like also to make this new solo game project a participative experience. If you have any experience with Nephilim or not you can throw ideas, road blocks, enemies, locations …in the comments. I will explore and face them :). I have few ideas with the templar history of the area, the geological wonders and some past or recent events...
