Scene 007 - Licking the wounds - part II

After some considerations Barton walks on the main dirt road heading to the barge, the farmers look at him sideways not used of strangers on this area.

Are the farmers hostiles ? (cf7 No way - 81 - N)

Without more attention they go back to their task. Barton arrives to the barge where an indifferent dirty tanned ferryman is waiting.

- “Hello how to cross”
- “10 if you wait 50 now”
- “How long is the wait”
- “You wait and see”

We are already in the late afternoon.

- “Today ?”
- “Maybe”
- “What about for 20 and some food now ?” (Persuasion 19)
- “ HmmmRumph, what do you have ?
- “ Some roasted meat from my last hunt”
- “Nice, jump on board and remove the rope before.”

Sharing some elk from last night Barton asks :
- “Do you know the order of the Queen location in the city ?”
- “Ask the guard when you arrive”
- “You don’t know them”
- “Ask the guard when you arrive”

Feeling he is going nowhere , Barton waits silently until they arrive to the city dock.
A guard is here looking at the newcomer.

- “What is your business here ?”
- “I need to deliver a message to the Queen order”

Is the order appreciate in the city ? (cf7 very likely - 66 - Y) -> random event

Interpretation : the cult already infiltrate the city and some of the guards. (note from me : the pureblood was an emissary and he was going to infiltrate an other city)

- ”Yeah, I know them. It’s the end of my guard and the barge is on this side, I can bring you there”
- “Thanks.”
- “They are close to the south gate. Easier for the horses. We are going to take a short cut.”

The street become narrower and the smell stronger. The light from the sun never reaches the pavement and never dry. Strong melt of moisture and other odor that Barton doesn’t want to know.

After 2 minutes in these dark streets :
- “2 more minutes” and the guard make a owl sound.
Barton with the excitement of the goal so close and the fatigue from previous day, doesn’t realize the trap closing on him.
- “WHY did you do this noise ?”
The guard with a big smile : - “Just calling some friends”.
Barton sees from the back and front intersection 2 groups of brigands(10) blocking any escape.
- “Don’t be a fool, give me your weapon and follow us”.

Barton race through all the option, run and maybe find the order or at least reach a bigger street or place where bandits would not risk to be see.

Are the building small and easy to climb ? (cf7 50/50 - 08 - EY)

Looking at the left Barton sees a low workshop with lot of barrels in front. An opportunity to escape?

Barton arrives on the big central market place with the guard closing the gap on him.

A tall guy in shiny armor, after the name of his order, sees barton with an Order of the queen insignia in his hand. Swiftly he moves close to him.

- “Where did you get this ? And you 3 is none of your business now. He is under my protection until further notice.”
- “But…”
- “I was not clear enough. You can send later one of your superior to the castle and ask for Willibert. Now I need to ask him some question.”

The guard from the river is worried but doesn’t want to confront the paladin. He turns back grumbling to his 2 colleagues.

- “Follow me, you can be in a worse if you don’t give me a good explanation how you get this insignia”

On the way to the castle, Barton Explain quickly : Lane, Chilton, the cottage attack and the run for help across the forest to Elkington. Willibert is convinced and brings barton to the infirmary where he receives some care and food. Barton describes also the weird creature and what he finds on her. Willibert takes the statue with great caution to check with the librarian and scholar.

- “I am going to report everything you said. Rest now. I will come back tomorrow morning”
